From App Orchard to Showroom
Epic launched the App Orchard program to give third-party developers a structured way to integrate with Epic's EHR. In recent years, Epic restructured and rebranded the program as Epic Showroom. The role didn't change — vendors enroll, build to Epic's SMART on FHIR specs, and get listed where Epic-using hospitals can find them — but the program structure and listing requirements were tightened.
You'll still see "App Orchard" referenced in older docs and case studies. On the VectorCare site we use "Epic Showroom" everywhere because that's the current, correct name.

What is the Epic Showroom?
Epic Showroom is Epic's marketplace where third-party healthcare apps are listed for hospitals running Epic to discover, evaluate, and deploy. It's the entry point for any vendor whose product needs to launch inside an Epic clinician workflow.
Is Epic Showroom the same as App Orchard?
Yes — Epic Showroom is the renamed and restructured version of what was previously called Epic App Orchard. The branding changed and the program structure was tightened, but the role is the same: it's Epic's vendor marketplace.
Does being listed on Showroom mean my app works in Epic?
No. Showroom is distribution and discoverability. The app still has to be built to SMART on FHIR standards, hosted in a HIPAA-compliant environment, covered by a Business Associate Agreement, and pass each hospital's security review before it can actually launch in their Epic instance. Showroom is necessary; it isn't sufficient.
How long does Showroom submission take?
It varies. The submission packet itself is significant — security documentation, technical specs, screenshots, demo environments, and Epic's own review cycles. Vendors building it themselves typically measure the process in months. SoFaaS™ handles submission as part of getting a vendor live.
Where does SoFaaS™ fit relative to Showroom?
Showroom is the listing. SoFaaS™ is the runtime your listing points at. When a hospital clicks 'deploy' on a SoFaaS™-powered app, they're deploying onto the SoFaaS™ runtime — pre-cleared compliance posture, pre-handled SMART App Launch, pre-built FHIR mappings.
Do I need a direct Epic relationship to be listed?
You need to be enrolled in the Showroom program, which has its own vendor agreement and process with Epic. SoFaaS™ customers don't need a pre-existing Epic relationship — we run the submission and the vendor process on your behalf.
